Olalla Fastnet Acceptable Use Policy
This Acceptable Use Policy specifies certain actions prohibited by Olalla Fastnet for users of the Olalla Fastnet Network. Olalla Fastnet reserves the right to modify this Policy at any time to stay in compliance with any laws, regulations and security requirements. By using Olalla Fastnet services, any customer, employee or third party unconditionally accepts the terms of this policy.
The Olalla Fastnet Network may be used only for lawful purposes. Transmission or distribution of any material in violation of any applicable law or regulation to or from any network or system is prohibited. This includes, without limitation, material protected by copyright, trademark, trade secret or other intellectual property rights used without proper authorization; government and military data protected by law and national security; university and academic data protected by public policy; and material that is obscene, defamatory, constitutes an illegal threat, or violates export control laws. Any violation of the above, which compromises the integrity of the Olalla Fastnet Network, or any other network is strictly prohibited.
Olalla Fastnet reserves the right to monitor and allocate network resources. IP addresses are allocated per network connection according to specific network requirements, typically one public IP address which may be shared by multiple client devices by utilizing Network Address Translation (NAT) which is supported by default by most home routers. Olalla Fastnet in its sole discretion and upon reasonable notice to customer reserves the right to discontinue or limit any Internet Access account which causes excessive network load, uses excessive resources, or violates the terms of this agreement.
Violations of network security are prohibited, and may result in criminal and civil liability. Olalla Fastnet will investigate incidents involving such violations and may involve and will cooperate with law enforcement authorities if a criminal violation is suspected. Olalla Fastnet respects the privacy of customer data and vigilantly protects the personal data of ALL customers of Olalla Fastnet, and personal data is stored offline in a paper format. If any violation of the law or this Acceptable Use Policy is suspected, Olalla Fastnet reserves the right to investigate. Use of the Olalla Fastnet network constitutes consent to monitoring. Examples of unlawful acts, system, or network security violations include, without limitation, the following:
- Unauthorized access to or use of data, systems or networks, including any attempt to probe, damage, scan or test the vulnerability of a system or network or to breach security or authentication measures without express authorization of the owner of the system or network.
- Unauthorized monitoring of data or traffic on any network or system without express authorization of the owner of the system or network. Interference with service to any user, host or network including, without limitation, mail bombing, flooding, deliberate attempts to overload a system and broadcast attacks.
- Unauthorized access to any data, system, or network from an unauthorized system or network for any purpose which is not lawful or which is intended to do harm.
- Forging of any TCP-IP packet header or any part of the header information in an email or a newsgroup posting. Electronic forging of any kind to include but not limited to IP addresses, domains, business names, etc.
FILTERS AND LIMITATIONS
Olalla FastNet routinely filters and blocks certain inbound traffic to our network from the Internet at large that is directed at services that should not be available on the open Internet, such as TFTP, Windows Workgroup and Homegroup File Sharing, and others, and traffic from and to individual IP addresses that exhibit malicious behaviors or are obtained from available managed lists of IP addresses blacklisted because of malicious activity. This is done to protect our subscribers and our infrastructure from attacks and to prevent them from being used to amplify other attacks such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks.
If you feel any service you legitimately require is being blocked please notify us and we will work with you to open that access for your use.
If, in the course of normal monitoring or troubleshooting, we notice one of our subscribers acting in a manner that may indicate that their computer may have been compromised we may (but are not required to) notify the subscriber and may (but are not required to) offer to assist in cleaning their system.
CUSTOMER SUPPLIED EQUIPMENT
A digital radio receiver is required to receive the Service. This radio is usually purchased from Olalla FastNet at the time of service installation. We do not offer an equipment lease or rental option. Because the service is based on a proprietary wireless protocol by Ubiquiti Networks the choice of interoperable radios is limited. If you choose to purchase the radio yourself it must be a Ubiquity "M2" series radio unit. If you choose to purchase it yourself you are responsible for choosing a unit that has the range and sensitivity to provide a good level of service at your location. For most locations in the Olalla, Porter Creek, and Tenmile areas we use the NanoStation M2. Other Ubiquiti M2 models are compatible but may have lower signal strength or throughput. We will provide guidance in selecting the proper device on request. If you do provide the device we will configure it secure the radio for operation with our service. You will not have ongoing management access to the radio after configuration. If you wish to reuse a radio after terminating service with Olalla FastNet, whether a radio purchased from us or from another source, you will need to reset the radio to factory defaults before reconfiguring it.
The radio requires a 120VAC outlet for the power supply to the radio. This power supply is a small unit (approx. 1" x 2" x 4") that is inserted into the Ethernet cable path between the PC or Router and the radio. This unit provides low voltage (24VDC) power to the radio over the Ethernet cable. This device should be continuously powered. Power consumption by the radio is approximately 7W, about the same as a nightlight.
Home Routers of most brands are compatible as long as they accept an Ethernet Internet connection. Some devices are built with a Cable or DSL modem integrated into the unit and these are not compatible unless they also provide an Ethernet Internet (a.k.a. Uplink) port. Olalla FastNet, if requested, will assist in selecting a unit and will configure units if they are present at time of installation. Most devices will function with default settings when connected to the Olalla FastNet subscriber radio. Olalla FastNet provides subscriber IP addresses and DNS information using the DHCP protocol.
Olalla Fastnet recommends the use of third party web based mail such at Yahoo! Mail, Google Gmail, or any of the many other options. We would be happy to assist you in selecting and setting up such an account.
If an email account is provided by Olalla Fastnet (i.e. an address such as email@example.com), sending unsolicited mail messages, including, without limitation, unwanted advertising and informational announcements, is explicitly prohibited. A user shall not use another site's mail server to relay mail without the express permission of the site owner. Legitimate mailing lists and subscriber lists are acceptable. Otherwise, it is SPAM.
INDIRECT OR ATTEMPTED VIOLATIONS OF THE POLICY, AND ACTUAL OR ATTEMPTED VIOLATIONS BY A THIRD PARTY ON BEHALF OF AN OLALLA FASTNET CUSTOMER OR A CUSTOMER'S END USER, SHALL BE CONSIDERED VIOLATIONS OF THE POLICY BY SUCH CUSTOMER OR END USER.
For Example, Any type of denial of service attack from valid or invalid addresses is a violation of this Acceptable Use Policy and is against the law.

SUBSCRIBER PRIVACY AND PERSONAL INFORMATION
We collect only essential personal information - address and telephone numbers - required to operate the service. This information is stored offline on paper. We know it's old fashioned but it's much less likely to be posted on the Internet by some hacker as a trophy. We do not collect or use credit card data or any other financial data other than your annual service check.
In the course of managing the network we assign a unique IP address to each subscriber. This is required for the basic operation of the Internet. This address can uniquely identify your access to the Internet. This address is stored within the network on a server known as a Dynamic Host Resolution Protocol (DHCP) server and can be retrieved by our system engineers. We can access your subscriber radio and determine if your home router or PC is connected to the network and the volume of traffic sent and receved. We do not routinely monitor or log any information about what websites or other Internet locations and services you may visit or access, although we may be compelled to do this by court order. We do not an cannot access the contents of your Email, even with a court order, unless it is an @olallafast.net hosted account.
We manage the network to limit malicious traffic originating from outside Olalla FastNet entering our network, and will attempt to identify and block outbound malicious traffic as well. If we identify apparently malicious traffic coming from your home we will notify you and probably block the traffic.
We comply with legal demands for customer information or actions, such as DMCA offence notices, to the best of our ability. This could result in your service being cancelled for repeated offenses.
We do not collect or sell any data to advertisers or anyone else without a court order.
INTERACTION WITH OLALLA FASTNET STAFF
Any threat, vulgar, or profane language directed at any Olalla Fastnet staff member, through phone, in person, or email, may result in immediate termination of an account. Any violation of this policy by any employee or contractor of Olalla Fastnet should be reported immediately. Bottom line is let's work together toward a mutually beneficial relationship and create a prosperous and responsible Internet community.
